Deliu-Kodra: Government should submit the draft law on the Specialist Chambers to the Assembly

PDK MP Blerta Deliu-Kodra has called on the Government of Kosovo and Minister of Justice Donika Gërvalla to submit the draft law on the Specialist Chambers to the Assembly. According to her, political statements must be followed by concrete institutional action.

Speaking at a press conference, she said the issue should neither be delayed nor treated as an ordinary item on the daily agenda.

“I call on the Government and Gërvalla to bring the draft law on the Specialist Chambers to the Assembly,” Deliu-Kodra declared.

The MP said such an initiative could not be regarded as an ordinary political issue because of the importance it has, in her view, for Kosovo and former members of the Kosovo Liberation Army.

“The Government must not delay it or call it an item on the daily agenda, because such a law is not a daily issue,” she said.

Deliu-Kodra called on MPs to act beyond party affiliations, stressing that following the joint declaration adopted days ago, clear steps are needed from the institutions.

“We owe it to the country to commit ourselves to drafting a law that helps the KLA leaders and, above all, helps Kosovo,” she said.

She referred to the joint declaration by the political parties, which was supported by 99 MPs in the Assembly and expressed opposition to the first-instance verdict against the former KLA leaders.

“As an Assembly, regardless of party affiliation, we owe it to make every effort. Days ago, the Assembly showed that it could be united, with 99 votes supporting a joint declaration by the political parties that described the sentence as unjust,” the MP declared.

According to her, political positions are not enough and must be accompanied by concrete steps from the institutions.

“Beyond the statements we hear from government officials, we need concrete action. That means bringing this law to the Assembly. Statements must turn into actions and positions that we can see,” Deliu-Kodra said.

The PDK MP also criticized the way the institutions are handling the situation, stressing that the passage of laws should not be used to create the impression that institutional normality prevails in the country.

“Thirty-five laws cannot be passed and normality simulated, because Kosovo is not in a normal situation today,” she concluded.
