Decision postponed for five people accused over Egli Proga’s death

The court did not issue a decision at the first preliminary hearing against five people accused of Egli Proga’s death in Pogradec. The hearing, held this Monday, lasted around 60 minutes but was adjourned due to the absence of Leonidha Guçe’s lawyer, one of the defendants.

The case is expected to be reviewed again next Monday. At that hearing, it will be determined whether the case file will be sent to trial on the merits or returned to the Prosecution for further investigation.

Egli Proga’s death in Pogradec has prompted strong public reactions and debate over the way the incident was investigated.

After a period of around two years, the Prosecution has concluded its investigation and sent the case for trial against five people.

Two of the accused are under house arrest, while the other three are required to report. The latter face charges of “failure to report a crime.”
