Prosecution sends case to trial as two alleged killers of Egli Proga appear in court

Denis Meçe and Leonidha Guçe, the suspected perpetrators in the killing of Egli Proga in Pogradec, arrived at the Korçë court on Monday morning, escorted by police officers. The hearing began at 09:00.

After two years, the prosecution concluded its investigation and sent the case to trial against five people. Prosecutors informed Denis Meçe and Leonidha Guçe that they were charged with intentional murder committed in collaboration.

The two accused had until now been under the security measure of “house arrest,” while the other three—Arjan Manellari, Voltan Shkulaku and Andi Shkulaku—who were placed under a “reporting requirement,” are accused of failing to report a crime and carrying out actions that obstruct the uncovering of the truth.

Leonidha Guçe was initially investigated only for failing to report a crime, but 9 months after the killing, the prosecution discovered that he too had taken part in the brutal beating of Proga, together with Denis Meçe.

Proga was assaulted inside the bar by Leonidha Guçe and was then struck by Denis Meçe after he left the bar.
