Çun Lajçi Raises Questions About Selective Support for Former KLA Members in The Hague

Actor Çun Lajçi has expressed concern over what he considers unequal treatment in the public support shown for former members of the Kosovo Liberation Army who have been tried or are facing trial in The Hague.

In a Facebook post, he noted that protests are organized and broad solidarity is shown for some defendants, while other names, according to him, have almost been forgotten.

Lajçi specifically mentioned Salih Mustafa, known as Commander Cali, as well as Pjetër Shala, asking why similar public action has not been organized for them.

“Why were protests never organized outside the court in The Hague for Cali and Pjetër Shala? What is this selectivity? This division?” Lajçi wrote.

He questioned whether Rexhep Selimi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi and others are considered less important than Hashim Thaçi, stressing that everyone’s contribution should be recognized without distinction.

“Isn’t Rexha just as important as Hashim? Isn’t Kadri just as brave as Cali? And Jakup—why is he being overlooked? Wasn’t he a key figure in the KLA General Staff?” he asked.

The actor said he was aware that his stance could prompt opposing reactions and attacks, but stressed that he could not remain silent about people who, in his view, are being left to be forgotten.

“How can I remain silent about the liberators who are being forgotten? How can I remain silent about the liberators when Kosovo is being torn apart before our eyes and we are choosing whom to remember and whom to forget?” he wrote.

At the end of his statement, Lajçi stressed that heroism and contributions should not be judged by how often names are mentioned at public forums, but by the determination not to forget any of those who contributed to the war.

“Heroes are not measured by how many times they are mentioned at public forums, but by how often we have the courage not to forget them,” Lajçi concluded.
