Corruption, money laundering and concealment of assets”/ Bardhi: SPAK has still not requested the lifting of Balluku’s immunity

Gazment Bardhi has reacted to the lack of a request from the Special Prosecution Office to lift the immunity of Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku, a procedure that would pave the way for her arrest.

In a statement published under the title “Day 8,” the chairman of the Democratic Party parliamentary group stressed that the week had once again ended without such a request from SPAK.

According to Bardhi, Balluku’s absence from Parliament at a time when the Socialist Party needed 84 votes demonstrates the tension between her and Prime Minister Edi Rama.

He recalled that in March, Rama had cited three reasons for Balluku’s arrest, while, according to him, in September SPAK attributed the same issues to her: corruption, money laundering and concealment of assets.

Bardhi said that the Special Prosecution Office should not act according to the prime minister’s political calculations and was not created to wait until Edi Rama convinces Belinda Balluku to give up her mandate.

He went on to underline that SPAK has the mandate to fight corruption and organized crime at the highest levels, acting independently of political power and its interests.

Regarding securing the 84th vote at 2 a.m., Bardhi claims that Edi Rama has crossed a “human limit” that, in his view, is difficult to imagine. He added that this is a separate matter and has nothing to do with Balluku.
