Confidential Document Taken from Parliament Office, Ethics Secretariat to Review SP Request on Agron Shehaj Tomorrow

The Secretariat for Procedures, Voting and Ethics will meet tomorrow to review the Socialist Party’s request to suspend MP Agron Shehaj from parliamentary proceedings for 60 days.

The SP has addressed its request to Parliament Speaker Niko Peleshi and the Secretariat for Procedures, Voting and Ethics, seeking disciplinary action against Shehaj and the referral of the case to the Special Prosecution Office (SPAK).

The request concerns an incident that occurred today, when the leader of the Mundësia Party took the confidential document on the law concerning the loan from the United States from Parliament’s offices. The Socialists are seeking to bar him from participating in committee meetings and plenary sessions for 60 days.

The letter explains that, during the review of the direct loan agreement between Albania and the United States of America, as part of foreign military financing, MPs had been notified that the material contained classified information. For this reason, the document could only be consulted on premises designated by Parliament and after a confidentiality declaration had been signed.

According to the SP’s claim, after arriving in the room where the document was kept, Agron Shehaj asked to take the physical copy with him, but Parliament staff objected.

The filed request alleges that the MP “forcibly took the material and left with it.” A parliamentary adviser who, according to the letter, followed him to retrieve the document fell down the stairs and sustained injuries.

“Through his repeated violent and aggressive behavior, MP Agron Shehaj endangered the adviser, who was left defenseless in the face of this violent and unacceptable conduct,” the request states.
