Clash of scenarios in LDK: Hoti backs Shala as chair, Bajrami seeks to lead the party

Hykmete Bajrami, a member of the Democratic League of Kosovo, has signaled her intention to enter the upcoming race for the party leadership, stressing that she would not run for prime minister if the LDK were led by someone else.

During an interview on the “Rubikon” program on Monday, she said that, in the absence of an improvement in the situation within the party, and provided that the process is open and fair, she would be among those seeking to lead the LDK.

“I would never be the LDK’s candidate for prime minister if the party had another chair,” she declared emphatically.

Bajrami stressed that the current political circumstances should not be confused with the party’s internal elections, which are expected to be held sometime between September and November 2027.

“If there are no positive changes, given the circumstances we are in, and provided there is a fair and transparent race, I will be among the candidates,” she added.

On the same day, former prime minister and LDK lawmaker Avdullah Hoti presented a different vision, declaring that he was working for Kujtim Shala to take over the leadership of the party, while Hykmete Bajrami would be the leading figure on the electoral list and the candidate for prime minister.

“I want to be publicly clear about how I see the future leadership of the LDK, which will successfully lead us into the next elections: by choosing a new leadership, a new chair, namely Kujtim Shala,” Hoti said on the “Debat Plus” program.

He insisted that Shala should head the party, while Bajrami should lead the electoral offensive.

“So, Kujtim Shala should be the chair of the LDK. My effort, together with my colleagues, is for Hykmete Bajrami to be the lead candidate on the list and our candidate for prime minister,” Hoti added.

According to him, Shala and Bajrami represent the two most credible figures around whom the LDK can regroup.

However, Bajrami’s statement casts doubt on this scenario, as she has made it clear that she would not accept the role of prime-ministerial candidate if the party were led by someone else.
