Citizens Reject ‘Besa’ Platform: Protests Mark 56 Days, Demand Rama’s Resignation

The popular revolt that began weeks ago marks its 56th consecutive day today, as in the evening citizens will regroup again in front of the Prime Minister’s Office to continue the daily gatherings.

One night earlier, demonstrators responded to Prime Minister Edi Rama, who during a meeting of the Socialist Parliamentary Group had floated the idea of the “Besa” platform, describing it as an attempt to build a new relationship with the people.

From the stage set up opposite government offices, protesters made it clear they do not accept this call, arguing that “besa” cannot be requested after 55 days of protests and that the executive has already lost credibility among Albanians.

During their speeches, rally organizers accused the head of government of attempting to stifle the voices of the citizen opposition with new initiatives, but stressed that the movement’s objective remains unchanged.

They clarified that they expect no new platforms, promises, or documents, but only one thing: the removal of Edi Rama from the post of prime minister. In addresses delivered before the crowd, they also reiterated that the resignation should be followed by facing the justice system and the establishment of a transitional government, which in their view would ensure the holding of free elections.

After the speeches concluded, the citizens carried out the traditional nighttime march along the capital’s boulevards, chanting slogans such as “Rama go”, “Resignation”, and “Albania does not surrender”.

Tonight as well, the defiant crowd is expected to return in front of the government building for the 56th consecutive evening, reconfirming that they will not empty the square until the central demand is met: the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama.
