Burnham Confirms British Support to Kurti for Kosovo’s Path Toward NATO

Acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo Albin Kurti received a letter on Tuesday from the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Andy Burnham. The letter was a response to the congratulations Kurti had sent to Burnham after he took office last month.

In his message, Burnham highlighted the close and enduring ties between the two countries, praising the support the United Kingdom has provided to Kosovo over the years.

According to the British prime minister, his country is proud to have stood alongside the people of Kosovo since NATO’s intervention in 1999, as well as to have been among the first countries to recognize Kosovo’s independence.

Burnham said that the United Kingdom would continue to be a strong supporter of Kosovo’s Euro-Atlantic aspirations. He added that London would continue its efforts to advance Kosovo’s integration into international institutions, including by increasing support for its application to the Council of Europe and moving forward on its path toward NATO.

The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom also expressed hope that a new government would be formed in Kosovo as soon as possible. According to him, this would enable deeper bilateral cooperation on issues of mutual interest, including defense and security, trade and investment, migration, and the strengthening of economic ties.
