Bulgaria returns more than two tons of yogurt from Macedonia over documentation discrepancy

More than two tons of yogurt originating from Macedonia were stopped at the Gyueshevo border crossing by inspectors from the Border Control Directorate at the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA). The inspection was carried out as part of official procedures, while the agency announced the incident and Bulgarian media reported it.

During an inspection of a truck, authorities found 576 boxes, each containing 20 packs of yogurt. The shipment was stopped because the information presented on the certificate did not match the data on the packaging label.

The entire shipment was returned to Macedonia that same day.

According to BFSA, checks at border crossings are carried out continuously. Their purpose is to protect consumers and prevent unsuitable or potentially dangerous food from entering the territory of the European Union.

Bulgarian media recall that at the end of last week, the same agency blocked a shipment of peppers from Macedonia from entering the European Union market because of excessive levels of pesticide residues. /Telegrafi/
