Britain and the EU commemorate the victims who disappeared in Kosovo: Truth and justice as a necessity

On the occasion of the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances, the United Kingdom and the European Union have expressed support for the families of persons who went missing during the war in Kosovo.

The commemorative ceremony was attended by the Deputy Ambassador of Great Britain in Kosovo, Agnes Annells, families of missing persons, acting President Albulena Haxhiu, acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti, as well as international partners.

In a message published by the British Embassy, it is emphasized that the United Kingdom strongly supports an approach to the legacy of the war that places victims at the center.

According to the statement, “this must seek the truth, preserve dignity and ensure remembrance for all those affected.”

The British Embassy stressed that standing by the families of the missing remains important, because for years they have continued to face pain and uncertainty about the fate of their relatives.

Meanwhile, the European Union in Kosovo has also expressed support for the families of the missing.

The EU Chargé d’Affaires in Kosovo, Boguslaw Gertruda, joined Haxhiu and Kurti in paying tribute to the persons who went missing during the 1998–1999 war.

“Truth and justice for missing persons are a necessity,” the EU message states.

Great Britain and the EU also underlined the importance of continued efforts to search for and find missing persons, stressing that this issue remains important for families and communities in Kosovo.
