Boçi: The opposition’s political action must move in parallel with the citizens’ protest

Democratic Party MP Luçiano Boçi said on the program “NOW with Erla Mëhillin” that the opposition must determine how to continue its political confrontation with the government.

According to him, the opposition’s political activity must be combined with the citizens’ protest, while the confrontation must also extend to other forms of political and institutional action.

Boçi said that the failure of institutions to function, despite the opposition’s engagement, demonstrates the complete degradation of the institutions of the Albanian state. He stressed that the opposition has both a civic and a political character and is now involved in the protest through its support and resources.

The Democratic MP emphasized that the citizens’ causes cannot be appropriated by the opposition, since it is the citizens themselves who are protesting. According to him, the opposition’s task is to unite its political movement with the civic movement, while strong political steps must be taken in Parliament and in the institutions.

He mentioned sit-ins, hunger strikes and the blocking of institutions as possible forms of action, stressing that these measures can be carried out only through coordination with the citizens’ protest. Boçi said that the Democratic Party is part of the protest “with heart, with people, with communication” and that the actions being taken by protesters today were also used earlier by the Democratic Party, but were condemned at that time.

The MP listed the opposition’s objectives as bringing down the government, holding free and fair elections, and establishing a technical government. He added that Edi Rama does not accept this position, while the protesters have found a way to respond to him and withdraw their support.
