Berisha comments on Republicans’ defeat in the US: It was caused by rising prices, tariffs and the war with Iran

Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha has commented for the first time on political developments in the US following the Republicans’ loss of positions in Congress and the Senate. Speaking on the “Now” program with Erla Mëhilli, the Democratic Party leader said the main factors influencing the American vote were rising prices, trade tariffs and the war with Iran.

According to Berisha, Iran’s use of the Strait of Hormuz as a strategic instrument and the impact of tariffs on trade led to higher prices for products in the US, directly influencing voters’ choices. He stressed that the result should be viewed in relation to the economic concerns of American citizens, rather than solely as a shift in the political balance.

Asked whether the Republicans’ loss of positions could affect his relations with the US administration, Berisha said he expected no changes.

Sali Berisha: The American people, fortunate to hold free and fair elections, voted for the candidates and policies they considered best. The fundamental cause of this major change was rising prices due to two main factors: the tariff factor and the Hormuz factor. The war with Iran and Iran’s use of the Strait of Hormuz as a strategic weapon. So, both of these factors were accompanied by real price increases in the United States.

Nothing changes in my relationship with this administration. Edi Rama should be a little worried, because only three weeks ago he called the Democrats and Biden traitors to Hashim Thaçi, and only two weeks ago he sent them the message that “you cannot defeat Donald Trump with votes and are seeking to defeat him with Zvërnec.” So Sali Berisha is consistent. While awaiting his arrival and welcoming him, I have been to an ambassador’s reception only once. Only once! I have not attended on seven or eight occasions.
