BBC: Iran expands its influence in the Red Sea through Houthi rebels in Yemen

The Houthi rebels have taken control of Mokha, near the strategic Bab el-Mandeb Strait, increasing their presence in one of the region’s most important maritime corridors.

In addition to Mokha, they have also seized Zuqar Island. Saudi-backed government forces have been unable to halt their advance, while Saudi oil facilities have also been targeted in attacks.

Experts quoted by the BBC say the latest developments are highlighting the weakness of Saudi forces and the strengthening capabilities of the Houthi rebels. The latter are allies of Iran, but also operate independently.

This situation gives Tehran greater influence both in the Strait of Hormuz and in the Red Sea.

The Islamic Republic has continued its attacks on the U.S. military network while expanding and complicating U.S. logistical lines. At the same time, Iran is developing and testing new weapons and continuing its maritime confrontation in the area of the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf of Oman.

Reports say that Iran is resuming missile production at underground factories and may have received technical assistance from Russia and China. According to some sources, there are concerns within the U.S. administration that the conflict with Iran could last up to two years.
