Attack on Artan Myrtaj: Skënder Hita orders the formation of a special group to assess the criminal situation in Sarandë

Following the serious incident that occurred on the morning of September 20 in Sarandë, where Artan Myrtar was killed in an attack, the State Police has decided to conduct a comprehensive reassessment of the criminal situation in the city and the performance of local police structures.

In a statement, the police said that Director General Skënder Hita had ordered the formation of a special group.

The performance of the entire leadership chain of the Sarandë Police Station, as well as that of officers in basic and first-level supervisory roles, will also be examined. The police announced that, depending on the results of this assessment, the appropriate measures would be taken.

At the same time, the police said, work is under way to establish specialized structures for investigating serious crimes and combating organized crime, as well as to ensure that they receive the necessary logistical support.

As part of the measures taken to solve the incident that occurred on the morning of September 20, 2026, in the city of Sarandë, and following the analysis conducted yesterday afternoon by the Director General of the State Police with the leadership of the Sarandë Police Station, we inform you that:

The Director General of the State Police has ordered the formation of a special group comprising the best experts from the Criminal Police Department and the Public Security Department, with the aim of conducting a comprehensive and in-depth reassessment of the criminal situation in the Sarandë district, in cooperation with the Vlora Local Police Directorate, the leadership of the Sarandë Police Station and its investigative structures.

In addition, an assessment is being conducted of the performance of the entire leadership chain of the Sarandë Police Station, as well as officers in basic and first-level supervisory roles. Based on their performance, the necessary steps will be taken.

At the same time, work is under way to establish specialized structures for investigating serious crimes and combating organized crime, as well as to ensure that they receive the necessary logistical support.

Meanwhile, in connection with the incident, the investigative team, under the direction of the Prosecution Office, is continuing intensive investigative actions, closely coordinated with the operational activities of police services in the field.

The State Police remains fully committed to solving the incident, identifying the perpetrators and bringing them to justice, as well as further strengthening security in Sarandë and throughout the country.
