ASH calls for concrete steps to unblock the European path

The Alliance for Albanians welcomes the visit of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to Skopje on October 2. The party calls on the institutions to use this opportunity to take concrete steps toward the European Union.

According to ASH, the decisions and commitments fulfilled on such occasions can influence the direction the country will take in the coming years.

“The European Union’s interest in the region should serve as an impetus for action. North Macedonia needs leadership that reaches agreements, takes responsibility and creates prospects. Further delays have consequences for citizens and the economy, and undermine young people’s belief that they can build their future here.

Prime Minister Mickoski and his government partners should attend this visit with actionable proposals and be ready to make decisions. We call for a timetable to be made public for fulfilling European obligations, including constitutional amendments, as well as reforms in the judiciary, the fight against corruption and the functioning of institutions.

After the visit, without delay, the parliamentary political forces should sit down at the same table to reach an agreement that paves the way for progress in the process. The government bears the primary responsibility for launching this initiative. For the sake of citizens, cooperation and decision-making must take precedence over party calculations.

For the Alliance for Albanians, European integration cannot be separated from equality, respect for the Albanian language, fair representation and legal certainty for every citizen. Institutions must apply these principles in their daily work. Guaranteeing rights and equal opportunities makes the state more credible on its European path as well.

The Growth Plan, together with the European Union’s support for regional development, offers opportunities for investment, job creation and improved services. For these opportunities to produce results, responsible institutions and effective reforms are needed,” ASH said.
