ASH calls for an end to the wait and bold decisions for citizens

In a press release, the Alliance for Albanians said that today’s visit to Skopje by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen made even more evident what the party had stated before her arrival. According to ASH, the current moment must be seized and the country must move forward.

The party said that the message delivered today from Brussels was clear and concrete. They said that only one key step remained before the opening of the first negotiating cluster: unblocking the euro-integration process through constitutional amendments. Once this impasse is resolved, the country will also receive an action plan for the next phase. ASH therefore stressed that the solution exists and that only political will is lacking.

The statement also emphasized that neighboring countries are making progress, opening and closing chapters and setting increasingly clear deadlines for their paths toward the EU. The enlargement process is moving forward and, according to ASH, North Macedonia cannot remain outside this momentum.

Following today’s visit, the Alliance for Albanians said there was no longer any room for wasting time. Dialogue must continue, outstanding issues must be resolved and the commitments undertaken must be addressed with political and institutional responsibility. Although it is positive that dialogue with neighboring countries is moving forward, it must produce results rather than create a new cycle of waiting. According to the party, the citizens of this country have waited long enough.

If a clear action plan and a new phase of talks truly await once the process is unblocked, then the main priority must be precisely to unblock the process. North Macedonia does not need another year lost, but decisions, reforms and a European perspective that finally becomes reality, ASH concluded.
