Andy Burnham Unveils New UK Cabinet, Names Appointees to Key Posts

Downing Street announced tonight that former UK Defence Secretary John Healey has been appointed Chancellor of the Exchequer in the new government led by Andy Burnham.

The appointment of the 66-year-old to oversee the country’s finances is an unexpected move, as Healey was not considered the leading candidate for the post. However, the Labour Party veteran is familiar with the field, having served as a Treasury minister from 2002 to 2007.

In Andy Burnham’s government, Ed Miliband has been appointed Foreign Secretary. He led the Labour Party from 2010 to 2015 and served as Energy Secretary in Keir Starmer’s government. He will now be responsible for the country’s foreign policy.

Shabana Mahmood will remain Home Secretary. She is known for her tough stance on immigration issues.
