The Police Oversight Agency (AMP) has detained police officer I.T., a member of the “Shqiponja” unit at the Tirana Local Police Directorate, on suspicion of violating traffic rules in an incident believed to have caused the death of a 66-year-old man.

The incident occurred on October 15, 2026, at around 00:45 on the Tirana–Rinas road, near the junction for the village of Domje. The vehicle driven by the officer collided with a bicycle. The cyclist, identified as S.M., 66, died at the scene.
Following the collision, the officer underwent an alcohol test, which returned a negative result of 0.0 mg/l.
After completing its initial investigative procedures, AMP arrested the officer on suspicion of the criminal offense of “Violation of road traffic rules.”
The Police Oversight Agency is continuing its investigation in cooperation with the Prosecutor’s Office to fully establish the circumstances of the crash and determine legal responsibility.
