Alliance for Albanians: Interior Ministry’s Silence Deepens Doubts Over Warnings Ahead of Tetovo Protest

Halil Snopçe, an MP for the Alliance for Albanians, requested a full clarification from the Ministry of Interior in Parliament regarding warnings of potential danger issued ahead of the protest in Tetovo.

His question was straightforward: was there specific operational information about any threat, or were citizens alarmed without any reason? Although the Deputy Minister of Interior, who could have responded on the minister’s behalf, was present at the session, he chose to remain silent. MP Snopçe was told that a written response would be sent to him.

Such conduct does not eliminate the uncertainties; on the contrary, it deepens them even further.

The protest in Tetovo ended without a single incident and in complete calm. However, the dramatic statements made beforehand by the Minister of Economy remain unsupported by facts or official data from the institutions responsible for security. Citizens have the right to know whether those claims were based on serious security assessments or were merely political rhetoric aimed at frightening people and influencing their participation in the gathering.

The Alliance for Albanians recalls that the right to protest is guaranteed by the Constitution and that no one may restrict it through threats, manipulation or unfounded statements.

They demand that the Ministry of Interior provide a full and transparent answer. If there was indeed information about a threat, it should be made public. If there was not, then it must be explained on what basis public opinion was alarmed.
