At the DUI Electoral Assembly in Butel, Skopje, party leader Ali Ahmeti commented on the latest developments in Albania, saying he is following with concern the consequences that, in his view, the protests and campaigns directed against the country could bring.
He stressed that Albania carries special weight for Kosovo and for all Albanians, recalling the help it has provided during the most difficult periods.

“There are some events, developments in Albania as well. It is a country that has helped us. Albania sheltered Kosovo. Albania is an inseparable part of Kosovo’s freedom. Without Albania’s help, without its means, Kosovo would not be the Kosovo it is today,” Ahmeti said.
According to him, what is currently happening is being followed with pain, because Albania, in his assessment, is facing two heavy blows.
“That is why we are following these developments with pain. We see that here Albania, from these protests whose purpose is unclear, is taking two blows. Strong blows,” the DUI leader said.
Turning to the economic aspect, Ahmeti said tourism is Albania’s main industry and that this sector is precisely the one being hit.
“Albania’s main industry is tourism. It is being hit in tourism. Where did the first campaign come from? From Greece, because its tourism is being threatened by Albania, Greece’s tourism is being threatened. A neighboring state should not think this way about its own neighbor, but it happened, with the first statement and the first reactions coming from Greece,” Ahmeti said.
He also claimed that initiatives against Albania are being supported by circles in Serbia as well.
“Who became the first spokesman of this campaign in Belgrade? The same one who is running the protest campaign in Serbia is running the campaign for the protests in Albania,” he said.
Ahmeti clarified that his statements are not in support of certain individuals in politics, but, according to him, are tied to concern for Albania.
“Someone may stand up and say: Ali Ahmeti is defending Edi Rama. No, Ali Ahmeti is defending Albania, and Albania pains him,” he stressed.
According to the DUI leader, besides tourism, both foreign and domestic investments have also been targeted, while the climate of uncertainty could severely damage the economy.
“The main branch of industry is being hit, tourism; the main branch, foreign and domestic investments. Do not think there are no consequences for domestic investors, not to mention foreign ones. No domestic investor risks his capital where there is insecurity,” Ahmeti said.
In conclusion, he accused efforts to stir insecurity in Albania of serving the opponents of Albanians, while the protesters, in his view, have become part of this scheme without realizing it.
“And who is trying to create insecurity in Albania? The enemies of the Albanian nation. I am not saying that those who have taken to the square there are enemies, but they have fallen into the trap of the enemies, without analyzing and properly studying the consequences they cause to the nation, not only in Albania, but more broadly as well,” Ahmeti concluded./INA/
