Albanian Man, 52, Arrested in Montenegro After Four Years on the Run Following Sexual Assault Report in Greece

Four years after a young woman reported being sexually assaulted in Halkidiki, authorities have arrested a 52-year-old Albanian man in Montenegro who is suspected of being the main perpetrator in the case.

The arrest was carried out under a European arrest warrant, and proceedings are now underway for his extradition to Greece.

The case was reported on May 30, 2022. The woman was 22 years old at the time and is now 26. She had gone to a secluded beach in Kassandra before starting work at a hotel in the area.

According to her statement, she was allegedly sexually assaulted on the beach by the 52-year-old Albanian man, who is now under judicial investigation.

Genetic analysis played an important role in solving the case. A DNA sample taken from a bed in the barn where the 52-year-old lived was examined in a laboratory and, according to the investigation, was linked to genetic material identified during the investigation into the alleged assault. The result helped establish him as the main suspect.

During the initial investigation, authorities also examined the possible involvement of another person, but no evidence was found to support that suspicion.

After he was identified, authorities suspect that the 52-year-old left Greece and went abroad. A European arrest warrant was therefore issued for him.

He was located and arrested in Montenegro. Legal proceedings for his return to Greece have begun, and he is expected to appear before judicial authorities in connection with the case reported in 2022.
