Air Traffic in Kosovo Shrinks by 5.7 Percent as Flights and Passenger Numbers Decline

Air traffic in Kosovo declined in June 2026, both in terms of the number of flights operated and the number of passengers who used this form of transport.

The Kosovo Agency of Statistics announced that a total of 2,314 flights were operated during the month. Compared with June 2025, when their number stood at 2,454, this represents a decrease of 5.7 percent.

In numerical terms, 140 fewer flights were operated over the course of one year.

A downward trend was also recorded among passengers. In June 2026, a total of 372,433 people used air transport, 5 percent fewer than in the same month of the previous year.

In June 2025, 392,165 passengers had been recorded, meaning that this year their number was around 19,700 lower.

KAS statistics show that the contraction affected both arrivals in Kosovo and departures from the country.

A total of 196,092 passengers entered Kosovo by air during June 2026. This figure was 4.8 percent lower than in June 2025, when 205,929 arrivals were recorded.

At the same time, 176,341 passengers left Kosovo, marking a decline of 5.3 percent compared with a year earlier. In June 2025, 186,236 passengers had left the country.

The annual 5 percent decline in the total number of passengers signals a notable reduction in air traffic precisely in a month that is usually associated with increased movement due to the summer season.

June is considered the start of the summer season and usually brings more travel for holidays, visits to family members and trips abroad. However, KAS data for June this year show a trend opposite to that of the same month of the previous year.

The year-on-year comparison shows that the number of flights fell from 2,454 in June 2025 to 2,314 in June 2026. During the same period, the number of passengers dropped from 392,165 to 372,433.

Unlike the air transport sector, rail transport recorded an increase in passenger numbers. During June 2026, 7,238 people travelled by train, or 7.4 percent more than in June 2025.

According to KAS, no freight was transported by rail during the same month.

Thus, train travel increased in June, although the number of rail passengers continues to be much lower compared with air traffic. Meanwhile, rail transport and telephony recorded different trends.
