Agon Ferati: Hague cases concerning Macedonia will not be reopened

Agon Ferati, minister for Relations between Communities, has said that the Hague cases concerning the 2001 conflict in North Macedonia will not be reopened.

Speaking on the “Rishtazi” program on “Koha cast,” Ferati stressed that there is no legal basis for these cases. According to him, the repeated warnings about bringing them back could be exploited for political purposes.

Ferati stated with complete conviction that the public should know that such reports have been circulating for some time. He added that claims about the cases being brought back emerged as a result of developments at the Hague Court and that they are now being revived, consciously or unconsciously.

The minister said that, as long as there is no legal issue, the topic could be used for political purposes, and therefore it must not be allowed to escalate.

According to Ferati, attaching excessive importance to this issue would produce an outcome contrary to the intended interest. For this reason, he said, it is not worth allowing the issue to escalate.
