He said that he was appointed to the Economic Crimes Unit in April 2016. According to Rexhepi, that was one of the most sensitive periods for Kosovo’s security, and his career there was marked by numerous challenges.
Comparing today’s reality with the past, Rexhepi described the difference as going from a moonless night to a clear spring day. He said that, until Albin Kurti came to power, the north was more Serbian than Serbia itself.
According to him, circumstances have now changed, although Serbs continue to fear the structures that previously kept them under terror.
Rexhepi also spoke about the pressure that, he said, illegal structures exerted on citizens in northern Kosovo. He claimed that whenever the siren sounded, everyone was forced to take to the streets, as disobedience could put their lives at risk.
Asked whether the Kosovo Police would manage to keep the north under control without compromising with illegal structures, he expressed confidence that it would. Rexhepi stressed that the police care equally for all citizens, without distinction.
He emphasized that criminals can be found everywhere, but the state must be more powerful than crime and, at the same time, more just.
The former police official said that he would continue without hesitation to contribute to the country’s security. He described this commitment as a debt to the homeland and as fulfilling the final wish of those who fell for this land.
Reflecting on his experience as an instructor at the Police Academy, Rexhepi urged new members of the Kosovo Police to work with professionalism and dedication. His message to them is to love the law and Kosovo, remain vigilant, and protect their dignity.
In conclusion, Rexhepi said that the north is no place for cowards, but for those who serve with heart rather than simply according to a schedule.
