After Workers’ Deaths, KEK Creates Task Force for Industrial Safety and Occupational Health

The Board of Directors and management of KEK have announced that they will take immediate measures to improve industrial safety and protect workers’ health.

Following the loss of employees’ lives, the Corporation’s leaders expressed their grief and conveyed their condolences to the victims’ families, relatives, friends and colleagues.

The decision was taken at an extraordinary meeting of the Board of Directors and Management of KEK J.S.C., where the management reported on the general circumstances of the incident. Meanwhile, investigations are being conducted at the scene by the competent authorities and forensic experts, while the full causes and circumstances are expected to be determined through the investigative process.

As part of the institutional response, the Board requested that the roles, responsibilities and accountability of every level involved in workplace safety processes be clearly defined. To this end, KEK J.S.C. will establish a Task Force for Industrial Safety and Occupational Health, which will also include external experts in the field.

The Task Force will comprehensively review the existing protocols, procedures, standards and mechanisms for occupational safety and health. The aim is to identify possible shortcomings and determine concrete measures for improving them.

KEK also announced that a workplace risk assessment was contracted during this year and is currently in the implementation phase. The findings of this process will be used as one of the foundations for further steps aimed at eliminating and reducing risks in work environments.

The Board and management reiterated that workers’ safety and health constitute the Corporation’s absolute priority. According to them, no operational or production objective can take precedence over the safety and lives of employees.

KEK announced that in the coming days it will publish information on the specific steps and measures to be taken to strengthen industrial safety and occupational health.
