Afrim Gashi meets former Assembly speakers and signs decision on their informal council

Assembly Speaker Afrim Gashi met with former Assembly speakers. During his third meeting with Tito Petkovski, Nikola Popovski, Trajko Veljanoski and Jovan Mitreski, Gashi signed the Decision on establishing the Council of Former Speakers of the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia.

The former speakers had been informed about the idea and purpose of adopting the Decision during the two previous meetings, held on October 21, 2025, and April 7, 2026.

According to Gashi’s Cabinet, the Council will function as an informal advisory and consultative body. Its establishment aims to ensure the continuity of the Assembly’s institutional memory, promote the development of parliamentary practice and democracy, and provide professional opinions and advice on matters of importance to the work of the Assembly.

The representatives also discussed certain procedural issues related to the work of the Assembly. They addressed matters concerning the digitalization of the Assembly’s work במסגרת the National Digitalization Strategy, and discussed the idea of an Assembly library. The meeting also covered other current issues of interest to the work of the Assembly and the state, according to a statement from Gashi’s Cabinet.
