Administrative Reform Divides Maliq as Residents Clash Over Merger with Korça

As part of the new administrative-territorial reform, the Maliq Municipal Council has launched a series of public consultations with the community. The first discussion was held in the Libonik Administrative Unit, where participants expressed differing views on the municipality’s future.

Some residents and Municipal Council representatives opposed the possible dissolution of Maliq Municipality and its incorporation into Korça Municipality.

Opponents of the initiative believe the change could limit citizens’ access to services and make daily life more difficult, particularly for those living in the administrative units.

Some participants at the meeting also voiced support for dissolving the municipality. A group of residents called for changes to Maliq’s current administrative structure, arguing that the existing system does not operate efficiently.

In the coming days, the consultation process will be extended to the other administrative units of Maliq Municipality to gather community views on the new administrative-territorial reform.
