Action targeting luxury cars in Tirana, police verify their origin and source of wealth

Tirana Police have launched an operation targeting luxury cars circulating in the capital, with a particular focus on verifying the origin of the vehicles and the source of the wealth used to purchase them.

During the checks, dozens of luxury vehicles were verified using a special device that enables the inspection of the vehicles’ identifying data.

After checking the system, the police said they carried out further checks into the ownership, origin and history of the vehicles, including how they were bought, sold and possessed.

Tirana/ Checks focused on luxury vehicles, with the verification of their origin and source of wealth at the center.

Tirana Police structures have intensified checks on luxury vehicles in order to identify and verify vehicles suspected of having been acquired through criminal activity, as well as to prevent their trafficking.

As part of these checks, the Economic and Financial Crime Investigation structures, in cooperation with the “Operational” Special Force, the “Eagle” Special Force and the Road Police, checked dozens of luxury vehicles in the capital.

The checks were carried out using a special device that enables the inspection and verification of the vehicle’s identifying data. Following the system checks, further checks were conducted on the identified vehicles regarding their ownership, origin and history of purchase, sale and possession.

Checks were also carried out into the source of the income used to purchase the vehicles, with the aim of identifying cases in which the assets may have been acquired through criminal activity, as well as identifying vehicles that may be subject to illegal trafficking.

At the conclusion of the verifications, the procedural materials were referred to the Prosecutor’s Office for the continuation of the investigations and the undertaking of further procedural actions.

Tirana Police will continue joint checks and verifications of luxury vehicles in order to identify and crack down on assets of criminal origin, prevent their trafficking and combat the laundering of proceeds derived from criminal activity.
