Abdixhiku’s bid for another term at the helm of the LDK, Lushaku-Sadriu says the decision is his

Whether Lumir Abdixhiku will run again for chairman of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) is for him to decide, said Jehona Lushaku-Sadriu, head of the LDK Parliamentary Group.

Speaking on KosovaPress’s “Interview of the Week” program, she said Abdixhiku is at the head of the party and will most likely remain so until the elections are concluded. According to her, he will announce himself whether he will run again after assessing his political journey, the support he has and public perception. Lushaku-Sadriu said she was certain that Abdixhiku periodically conducts such an assessment and stressed that the decision is entirely his.

Speaking about Përparim Rama’s candidacy to lead the LDK, Lushaku-Sadriu said she respected his ambition. However, she stressed that anyone seeking to become chairman must follow the path within the party, since a person who is not an LDK member cannot lead it.

She added that anyone wishing to join the LDK is welcome and that no one can be denied the desire to seek the post of chairman. According to her, there are also many people within the party who have this ambition, so the race should be open.

Regarding Rama’s calls for Abdixhiku’s resignation, Lushaku-Sadriu said she did not wish to discuss his views directly, so that her position would not be perceived as biased. She added that Rama had the right to express them publicly if he believed they were justified.

Lushaku-Sadriu stressed that a political party bears responsibility for its candidates, platform and political contest, and is represented in the assembly through its assembly members and candidates. According to her, those who run under a party’s banner are responsible to that party for their actions. She gave herself as an example: she could have run as an independent lawmaker, but chose to be part of the LDK and represent the values for which her electorate had entrusted her with their support.

The LDK will hold its internal elections in September next year.
