Abdixhiku: The Hague ruling does not change the historical truth of the war in Kosovo

The chairman of the Democratic League of Kosovo, Lumir Abdixhiku, reacted after the verdict delivered today in The Hague against the former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army.

He recalled the crimes committed by the Serbian regime during the war, saying that Kosovo faced terror and ethnic cleansing. According to Abdixhiku, innocent civilians were killed and thousands of families were driven from their homes.

Under these circumstances, he stressed, the people of Kosovo fought for survival and freedom.

“The boys and girls of the Kosovo Liberation Army defended their homes. The KLA remains the proudest part of the modern history of our people—yesterday, today and forever,” Abdixhiku wrote.

The LDK leader said that today’s ruling, like any other verdict, cannot overturn what he considers to be the historical truth of the war in Kosovo.

“No verdict, including today’s, can erase the historical truth of the war in Kosovo,” he declared.

Abdixhiku called on all political forces to leave divisions behind and unite in the face of the difficult period Kosovo is going through.

“We call on all political forces to set aside their divisions and stand together to face this difficult period for Kosovo,” he wrote.

He also called for the protection of civic unity and the strengthening of relations with international friends who, he said, have supported Kosovo on its path to freedom and independence.

“Our freedom has come at a great cost. Our state is everyone’s responsibility. Let us protect Kosovo, civic unity and the friendships that stood by us on the road to freedom and independence,” Abdixhiku’s statement concluded.
