Abdixhiku: Presidential Candidates Align with Agreed Principles

Lumir Abdixhiku, leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo, said that the candidates discussed during his meeting with Vetëvendosje Movement leader Albin Kurti meet the principles the parties had previously agreed upon for the election of the next president.

According to Abdixhiku, all the names presented align, to varying degrees, with the criteria established so far. He described this development as progress in the negotiations and confirmed that talks would continue.

The LDK leader did not disclose which names had been proposed. He said that, at this stage, he could not discuss specific candidates, while announcing another meeting between the parties to conclude the discussions and elect the next president of the Republic of Kosovo.

Abdixhiku also addressed the process of constituting the Assembly, saying that the LDK still faces profound constitutional uncertainties.

He described the LDK as an institutional safeguard, stressing that the party can neither constitute the Assembly on its own nor convene its session. Under the current circumstances, he said, the only thing the LDK can do is act reasonably in efforts to elect the president.

Abdixhiku also stressed that the LDK would participate in the negotiations while remaining true to its identity and political positions.

He called for the LDK to be accepted as such, stating that, in these discussions, the party speaks with full conviction about the values it has historically represented over the past 37 years.

The meeting between Kurti and Abdixhiku was held at the Kosovo Assembly. The parties are expected to hold further meetings aimed at reaching an agreement on the election of the next president.
