Abdixhiku: LDK Will Not Abandon Its Publicly Stated Principles

Following a meeting lasting more than three hours with LVV leader Albin Kurti, Democratic League of Kosovo chairman Lumir Abdixhiku said the talks had been constructive, although they did not produce any concrete agreement, KosovaPress reports.

Abdixhiku said the dialogue would continue in the coming days, with the aim of holding more detailed and substantive discussions. According to him, the meeting addressed policy, political and strategic issues related to the future of the Republic of Kosovo.

This was the second meeting between the two sides following the June 7 elections. The LDK leader said his party was participating in the talks in good faith, while fully respecting the election results and seeking to avoid new elections at all costs, which would be the fourth in less than two years.

He said such engagement protects not only the interests of the LDK, but also those of the Republic of Kosovo, which, according to him, needs effective governance and institutional stability more than political drama.

Abdixhiku reiterated that the LDK continues to adhere to the principles it previously presented publicly. The first principle, he said, is to reach a comprehensive agreement that guarantees institutional stability, while the second concerns ensuring a democratic balance within the institutions of the Republic.

He stressed that the LDK must feel represented in this democratic balance. Otherwise, the party’s contribution and the political constellation formed around it would not have the necessary strength and influence.

The LDK chairman warned that the lack of a political solution would lead the country toward new elections. He said the meetings would continue in the same spirit of goodwill, because if nothing is done, new elections remain the only guaranteed outcome.

According to Abdixhiku, such a development would not be good news for either the people of Kosovo or the political parties. For this reason, the LDK is participating in the discussions and trying to make the best possible contribution, while taking into account the country’s interests and the policies it represents.

He clarified that no specific names have been discussed so far because the talks remain at the level of principles. Abdixhiku added that the LDK would insist on safeguarding Kosovo’s democracy and, in the event of a partnership with the other side, on securing its proper representation.

Regarding the process of constituting the Assembly, Abdixhiku said the LDK had requested that it proceed without delay if there were no developments by August 6. According to him, there would be no reason to wait any longer in such a situation.

He stressed that the LDK does not seek the post of speaker of the Assembly, which he described as a ceremonial position that, as stipulated by the Constitution, should reflect the nomination of the largest party. In this context, the LDK will put forward its nominee for the post of deputy speaker of the Assembly.

Regarding other issues, Abdixhiku said there was an additional timeframe, but emphasized that the sooner a solution was found, the better. He added that Kosovo faces many problems and challenges and therefore needs concrete solutions.

The constitutive session of the Kosovo Assembly for its 11th legislature has been called for August 6, beginning at 10:00.
