Abdixhiku: Bekim Sejdiu, a dignified and responsible candidacy for President of Kosovo

Following the agreement reached with the Vetëvendosje Movement on a joint candidate for president of Kosovo, LDK leader Lumir Abdixhiku said that Bekim Sejdiu represents a responsible and worthy solution in the interests of the state.

According to Abdixhiku, the agreement demonstrates that the interests of the Republic can be placed above party calculations, at a time when the country has endured months of political and institutional uncertainty.

He stressed that the institutional deadlock and loss of time have increased citizens’ expectations of political entities to find a way out in the interest of the state.

Abdixhiku said that Professor Sejdiu’s name was proposed independently by both negotiating sides. According to him, when the interests of the Republic are placed before party interests, it becomes possible to find figures and solutions that bring people together.

In a Facebook post, the LDK leader thanked both negotiating teams for their support and constructive efforts during a process he described as difficult and complex.

Abdixhiku said he expects Bekim Sejdiu to be the president of the Republic and of all citizens, rather than a representative of two parties or a temporary majority.

He said Sejdiu is expected to protect the constitutional order and preserve the unity of the country, as well as to carry out his duties with independence, wisdom and responsibility under all circumstances.

The LDK leader also stressed that the next president must represent Kosovo with dignity before its allies and unwaveringly defend the state’s Euro-Atlantic orientation.

He also described Sejdiu as a voice of reason during periods of confrontation and as a unifying factor when political and social divisions deepen.

Abdixhiku said that the LDK would support the agreement with the conviction that the state is more important than any party interest. He added that this has always been the party’s conviction and that it is being demonstrated in this case as well.

Abdixhiku presented today’s position as a response to instability, chaos and doubt: a Republic with a dignified president and an LDK that remains rooted in its Rugovist and institutionalist tradition.

In conclusion, he said that the LDK offers individuals of integrity even when it gains nothing for itself because, in his view, the party loves the state more than itself, ending his statement with the words: “May God bless Kosovo.”
