Abdixhiku accuses Haxhiu and Buzhala of meeting with LDK lawmakers and interfering in the party’s political direction

Lumir Abdixhiku has accused Baton Haxhiu and Berat Buzhala of holding meetings with lawmakers from the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) in an effort to influence the party’s political direction.

During an interview on Kanal 10’s “Adresa” program, the LDK chairman said that holding new elections was not a demand of the party’s majority of members. He claimed that the idea had been promoted for weeks by Haxhiu, Buzhala and certain political circles.

According to Abdixhiku, the influence of these external currents may also have played a role in some of the opposition that emerged within the LDK Parliamentary Group. He said that Haxhiu and Buzhala had met with party lawmakers before meetings of the Parliamentary Group, but did not say which lawmakers were involved, when the meetings had taken place or what had been discussed.

The LDK leader expressed concern that people outside the party were, in his view, trying to determine its political direction.

“When Baton and Berat make LDK policy, things are not going well for us,” Abdixhiku said.

He said these actions were linked to an effort to form a broad opposition bloc in which, he claimed, the LDK would be placed in a subordinate role. Abdixhiku rejected this possibility, stressing that the LDK and PDK differ both in their political orientation and in their electorate.

In his assessment, such a rapprochement would not make the opposition stronger. On the contrary, he warned that the LDK would be harmed and that some of its voters would shift toward Vetëvendosje.

Abdixhiku called on lawmakers and party structures to base their decisions on the voice of the membership and citizens, rather than on the advice of people who, as he put it, do not vote for the LDK and do not want the party.

He also warned that the failure of an agreement on a consensus candidate for president, followed by sending the country to elections without a clear plan, would weaken the LDK while politically strengthening Albin Kurti.

According to the LDK chairman, even after a new electoral process, the parties would once again have to sit down with the political subject that secured the largest number of votes to find a solution regarding the president. Based on this, he said that elections would not resolve the institutional crisis.

The interview also addressed the relationship Abdixhiku had previously had with Buzhala. He acknowledged that, during the first period of his leadership of the LDK, he had facilitated the involvement of several people whom, he said, he did not know well enough.

The moderator also informed Abdixhiku about Buzhala’s response, in which he had spoken about their previous communications and cooperation and had raised the possibility of publishing the messages. Abdixhiku did not deny that they had communicated in the past, but said that over time he had formed a different assessment of him.

In conclusion, he claimed that Haxhiu and Buzhala’s current positions ran counter to the LDK’s political interests. According to Abdixhiku, the aim was to weaken the party and include it in a joint opposition bloc.
