Resistance by residents of Divjakë against the territorial reform continued this Monday, when citizens held their 53rd consecutive protest to oppose the dissolution of the municipality and its merger with Lushnjë.

Residents said that, in the face of decisions made by the authorities, they would continue to defend their community’s autonomy and identity.
According to them, the executive’s initiative risks erasing Divjakë’s 34-year history as a city, as well as nearly 12 years of operation as a consolidated municipality with a separate administration.
The protest concluded on Monday evening with a march through the city’s main streets, through which citizens conveyed their position to the authorities.
“Divjakë, a municipality!” and “Divjakë belongs to the citizens, not those in power!” were the protesters’ chants. They declared that they would continue their resistance until their legal and community demands were met.
