48-hour detention ordered for one person following the death of a KEK worker

The Basic Prosecution Office in Pristina has ordered the 48-hour detention of a person identified by the initials A.K. as part of the investigation into the death of KEK worker Arbenit Ahmeti, 32.

A.K. is suspected of the criminal offense of “Destruction, damage or removal of protective equipment and endangering safety at the workplace,” provided for under Article 358 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kosovo.

According to initial information, the incident occurred during the transportation and relocation of 6kV cables. The victim is suspected of having come into contact with electrical voltage, sustaining serious injuries.

The prosecutor on duty at the General Department was informed of the accident that occurred at the Kosovo Energy Corporation (KEK), where a worker lost his life at the workplace.

Following the report of the case, the relevant units of the Kosovo Police, the Independent Commission for Mines and Minerals (ICMM), the Labour Inspectorate and KEK’s Internal Inspectorate went to the scene.

Under the instructions of the prosecutor on duty, the responsible institutions carried out the necessary investigative actions aimed at fully clarifying the circumstances and causes that led to the worker’s death.

The prosecutor handling the case will assess the circumstances and evidence collected so far within the legal deadline. Subsequently, the prosecutor will undertake the necessary measures, including filing a request for the imposition of one of the security measures against the defendant in the criminal proceedings, in accordance with the legislation in force.
