43-Year-Old Man from Skopje Arrested for Smuggling Near the Kosovo Border

A 43-year-old man from Skopje was arrested on Friday morning in the border area between Kosovo and North Macedonia on suspicion of involvement in goods smuggling. During the operation, police seized two transport vehicles.

The Ministry of Interior said that at around 08:00, police officers discovered individuals transferring goods from one vehicle to another along the border line between the villages of Tanushë and Mjak.

According to the Ministry of Interior, the operation involved the loading and exchange of goods between a Volkswagen transport vehicle with Kosovo licence plates and a Peugeot vehicle with Skopje licence plates.

Police intervened to stop the vehicles and identify those involved. During the operation, A.A. (43) from Skopje, who was driving the Peugeot, was arrested, while the driver of the Volkswagen fled towards Kosovo territory.

The Ministry of Interior said it coordinated with members of the Kosovo Police Task Force, who took measures to stop the vehicle. However, while attempting to evade being stopped, the vehicle left the road.

Both vehicles have been seized pending further procedures, while the public prosecutor has been informed about the case. Once all circumstances have been fully clarified, the relevant criminal complaint will be filed.
