26-year-old Turkish woman sentenced over motorcyclist’s death found dead in Montenegro

Ege Karaaslan, 26, who had been sentenced over a road accident that resulted in the death of a motorcyclist, has been found dead in the apartment where she was staying while on vacation in Montenegro.

The accident occurred on October 11, 2024, in Manisa, Turkey. According to published reports, Karaaslan ran a red light and collided with the motorcycle of 27-year-old Hasan Emre, who died at the scene.

Following the incident, the 26-year-old was arrested and initially sentenced by the court to four years and three months in prison. After the victim’s family appealed, the sentence was changed to five years in prison.

On March 18, the court ordered her release, taking into account the time she had spent in pretrial detention. Hasan Emre’s family opposed the decision, while the judicial proceedings were still ongoing and had not concluded with a final ruling.

In the first days of September, Karaaslan went to Montenegro to visit a friend. On September 13, she was found dead in the apartment where she was staying.

The causes and circumstances of her death have not yet been clarified by the authorities. Her body is expected to be transported to the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Izmir, Turkey, where an autopsy will be conducted before it is sent to Balikesir for burial.
