2,162 kilograms of marijuana seized at the Vërmica border crossing by Kosovo authorities

A significant quantity of narcotic substances was discovered on Sunday at the Vërmica border crossing point, following a joint operation between Kosovo Customs and Police.

During a routine check of a bus entering the country, customs officers decided to subject both the vehicle and passengers’ luggage to physical verification.

One of the passengers, when asked if he was carrying any items that needed to be declared, gave a negative answer.

However, the inspection of his personal bag revealed a plastic bag containing a substance suspected to be narcotic. After weighing, it turned out to be 2,162 kilograms of marijuana.

The bus was further scanned, but no other violations were found.

Kosovo Police were immediately notified and the suspect, along with the seized substance, was handed over to the relevant authorities for further legal proceedings.

Kosovo Customs reaffirmed its ongoing commitment, in coordination with the Police and other institutions, to combat smuggling and drug trafficking, aiming to protect public safety and state interests.
