Zulfaj and Barley discuss Kosovo’s path to the European Union

Kosovo aims to make progress in the European integration process, and this issue was at the center of a meeting between Jeton Zulfaj, Kosovo’s chief negotiator with the European Union, and Katarina Barley, vice-president of the European Parliament and executive vice-president of the Party of European Socialists (PES).

During the discussion, the two sides focused on Kosovo’s European prospects and recent geopolitical developments in Europe, which have brought EU enlargement back into the spotlight for European institutions.

Zulfaj thanked Barley for her support for Kosovo’s progress on its path toward joining the European Union.

He stressed that Kosovo’s main objectives remain obtaining candidate country status and opening EU accession negotiations.

The chief negotiator also praised Barley’s role in securing political support within European institutions so that Kosovo’s European prospects can be translated into concrete institutional steps.

The meeting took place at a time when European Union enlargement is returning to the center of political debate in Europe, while Kosovo is seeking support to advance the integration process and take the next steps toward membership.
