Zemaj opposes Sejdiu’s candidacy for president: The LDK is nobody’s property

LDK MP Armend Zemaj has reacted on social media after opposing Bekim Sejdiu’s candidacy for president of Kosovo. He is one of six MPs from the party who have come out against the proposal.

In his message, Zemaj focused on the LDK’s identity and legacy, stressing that its members and Rugovists should not be influenced by temporary political developments or interests.

“Good morning, Kosovo! Today and forever, LDK!” he wrote.

Zemaj said that, even after the latest developments, his commitment to the LDK’s values had not changed.

“I have waited, I have followed events, I have waited again. But one thing has not changed: LDK members and Rugovists remain where they have always been, in their roots,” the MP declared.

He stressed that these foundations cannot be shaken by the political interests of the day.

“Deep roots are not swayed by the winds of the day and are not uprooted by the interests of the moment. They were not created by lobbying, financing or deals, either from within or from outside the country,” Zemaj wrote.

Referring to the party’s past, the MP mentioned the founding of the LDK and its political engagement for Kosovo.

“They are indigenous roots, planted in 1989 and nourished by a century of memory, sacrifice and dedication to Kosovo and the Albanian cause,” he said.

Zemaj concluded his message by stressing that the LDK does not belong to any one person or particular group.

“The LDK is nobody’s property. It is the history, values and trust of generations,” he wrote.

The reaction was made public after Armend Zemaj, Avdullah Hoti, Hykmete Bajrami, Arben Gashi, Kujtim Shala and Janina Ymeri opposed the LDK’s support for Bekim Sejdiu as a candidate for president.

The opposition of the six MPs has complicated the political agreement between the LDK and the Vetëvendosje Movement on the election of the president, as their votes could determine whether the Assembly secures the required majority.
