Zelensky Denies Ukraine’s Involvement in Nord Stream Sabotage Following German Investigators’ Findings

Volodymyr Zelenskyy has reiterated that Ukraine had no role in the 2022 explosions that damaged the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines carrying Russian gas to Europe.

Last month, prosecutors in Germany concluded that the pipelines had been sabotaged on the orders of the Ukrainian state. The allegation is expected to complicate Kyiv’s relations with Germany, one of Ukraine’s main military supporters.

Asked by reporters today about the investigations, the Ukrainian president said: “Ukraine has never officially taken part in any operation related to the sabotage of Nord Stream.”

Zelensky, who has repeatedly denied his country’s involvement, also said that Germany “is fully aware that Ukraine did not organize, carry out or even devise this operation.”

According to him, Kyiv is cooperating with Berlin by assisting with the investigations and hopes the issue will not damage relations between the two countries.

“It is very important for us not to lose our partnership, not to lose the trust of the European countries that have helped Ukraine since the beginning of this war against Russia,” Zelensky said.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, authorities in Croatia arrested a Ukrainian citizen suspected of having links to the pipeline sabotage.

The arrested man was reportedly working on the production of a film about the attack.

German prosecutors say he had collaborated with another Ukrainian citizen who was arrested in Italy last year and subsequently extradited to Germany.
