Today, Socialist MP Erion Braçe raised concerns in Parliament about the unfair practices suffered by farmers at the hands of collectors, who impose very low prices on agricultural products.
During his speech, he used harsh language to illustrate the daily reality faced by farmers in the field.

Braçe took the example of watermelon in Divjakë, stating that illegal, unlicensed, and unregistered individuals in tax authorities go to the farmer and impose low prices.
According to him, the sale of watermelon in the current market is 30 lekë per kilogram, while farmers are given 6 to 7 lekë per kilogram.
According to the SP MP, “a separation must be made between the owner of agricultural inputs and the collector, exporter, and financier. In cases where these roles are combined and, on the other hand, these are also producers, the price they will impose on the farmer will be increasingly lower because no one is interested in buying at a high price.”
He stated that the farmer is put under pressure to sell at a low price, otherwise he is told “f*ck off!”
“What is happening today in Divjakë with watermelon? Illegal, unlicensed, and unregistered individuals in tax authorities go to the farmer, exploit his difficult situation, and impose their price.
What is the price today? 6-7 lekë. What is the price just a bit higher than here? 30 lekë.
Therefore, we must do something and make the scheme we are approving today by law successful. To do this, we must start with the fiscal system for agricultural production and agricultural products. If we do not do this, this law will fail.
Secondly, a separation must be made between the owner of agricultural inputs and the collector, exporter, and financier. In cases where these roles are combined and, on the other hand, these are also producers, the price they will impose on the farmer will be increasingly lower because no one is interested in buying at a high price.
The expression used today by these people is: “Will you leave the watermelon for this much money?”
“No.”
“Then f*ck off, I’m not taking it!”
“I apologize for the expression, but this is the trade relationship that exists today in the fields.
We would do well to legalize this process and legitimize a mechanism that protects the farmer and his production. No trade receipt will protect the farmer if we do not regulate the market, regulate the fiscal system, and protect producers.
There are success cases, but there are also cases that must be addressed and dismantled, because they are part of the abuse against the farmer. They exist and must be eliminated as soon as possible, so that farmers can breathe,” emphasizes Braçe.
