Will AAK Support Bekim Sejdiu’s Candidacy for President? Ardian Gjini Responds

Ardian Gjini, chairman of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), has clarified the party’s position on the process of electing Kosovo’s president, including the possibility that its lawmakers could vote for Bekim Sejdiu, the candidate proposed by the LDK and LVV.

According to Gjini, AAK’s position was established on June 7, and the party does not consider itself bound by any possible agreements between other political entities.

“The Alliance’s position has been clear since June 7. We have no obligation whatsoever to any agreement made by two other political parties,” Gjini declared.

The AAK chairman criticized the government, saying that he saw no willingness to address issues affecting citizens, the country’s future and Kosovo’s long-term planning.

“We see no willingness whatsoever on the part of this government to deal with any issue concerning the citizens of Kosovo, the country’s future or long-term planning,” he said.

Asked whether Albin Kurti and Lumir Abdixhiku had invited him for consultations on the election of the president, Gjini said he did not want to become involved in what he called “children’s games.”

“I don’t have time for these kinds of children’s games, whose purpose is to deceive the public and send Kosovo to elections,” he said.

Gjini stressed that AAK’s lawmakers were united in their position and that any decision by the party would be made collectively.

“We are 100 percent united. Whatever decision is made within the Alliance, it is a united decision,” the AAK chairman concluded.

During his statement, he also spoke about the municipalities’ protest, describing the situation in Kosovo as particularly serious.

“Today we are in a situation where the municipalities have come to protest because the period of the greatest deception in Kosovo’s history has affected every aspect of life in Kosovo. Kosovo is on the verge of economic and social collapse. It is not respected on the international stage. We are facing blockades, we have been excluded from the strategic dialogue with America, and we have been under European sanctions,” Gjini declared.
