Who Is Uljan Shpataraku, Caught in a Car with Ergys Agasi!?

Businessman Ergys Agasi, who was wanted by SPAK, was arrested today in the Plepa area of Durrës while traveling in a car with Uljan Shpataraku, a former police officer who was also wanted. While Agasi was wanted in connection with the investigation into the AKSHI scandal, Shpataraku, a former senior State Police official, was declared wanted following an altercation with employees at a hotel in Himarë.

Shpataraku was declared wanted on August 6 of this year after he allegedly threatened a waiter and the hotel manager with death because he did not like the food while vacationing at a hotel in Dhërmi. The hotel staff filed a complaint with the Himarë Police Station, and police subsequently declared the former police official wanted. In May, Skënder Hita dismissed Shpataraku from the police force for failing to report for duty, with Shpataraku arguing that he was continuing his studies. He served as an assistant in the State Police Information Technology Department and was known as one of Ilir Proda’s trusted associates.

Just one day after he was declared wanted, Shpataraku issued a lengthy response in which, among other things, he leveled serious accusations against Hita.

Shpataraku accused Hita of unprofessional conduct and of showing excessive zeal in exaggerating the incident in which he was involved. In a statement to journalist Klodiana Lala, he admitted that he had argued with the hotel staff but denied threatening to kill them or brandishing a weapon. Taking aim at the current police leadership, Shpataraku said he would have liked to see the same speed with which the procedures against him were carried out to declare him wanted applied to the incident in Palasë, where a firearm was discharged from a yacht and no one was detained.
