West Nile fever claims the life of a 69-year-old, 19 hospitalized at the Infectious Diseases Clinic in Skopje

The death toll from West Nile fever has risen to seven after another patient died. The victim was a 69-year-old man from Gazi Baba who had been receiving treatment at the Infectious Diseases Clinic for several days.

Sasho Klekovski said that 19 patients remain hospitalized at the clinic, while only one new case has been confirmed in Radishan.

“The condition of the hospitalized patients remains unchanged; I think there are 19 patients. So, we have only one new confirmed case from Radishan. In fact, this week, over the past few days, since the weekend, all the new cases have come from the northern part of Skopje,” Sasho Klekovski said.

Referring to a study conducted in the United States, Klekovski said that men are more likely to develop severe forms of the disease and face a higher risk of death.

According to the Health Minister’s report, around 79% of the cases are men. Meanwhile, the number of hospitalized patients remains at 19, and health authorities are continuing to monitor the situation.
