War with Iran drains U.S. ammunition stockpiles, cost reaches $33.4 billion

The war with Iran has depleted U.S. ammunition stockpiles, the Pentagon has acknowledged, confirming concerns raised in recent months about the state of the American arsenal.

The data are included in a report submitted to Congress by the inspector general of the U.S. Department of Defense. The document’s conclusions contradict the Trump administration’s previous positions, which had largely denied reports of problems with ammunition stockpiles.

The report’s publication coincided with a statement by President Donald Trump on Truth Social, in which he said that the United States was producing “more high-end and elite weapons than at any other time in its history.”

The first report of its kind, whose preparation is mandatory for Congress, states that the U.S. military operation “Epic Fury” cost approximately $33.4 billion from February 28 to June 30.

The ammunition used during the operation alone accounted for approximately $22.3 billion of the overall cost.

The inspector general’s document highlights the damage caused by the conflict to U.S. military stockpiles, as well as the need to replenish them. Meanwhile, the effects of the war have also spread to international energy markets.

Oil prices have continued to rise, surpassing $103 per barrel. This has deepened concerns about the consequences the war could have for global supplies and the economy.

Energy prices are rising at a time when military developments and the possibility of disruptions to oil supplies have created significant uncertainty in the markets.

The Pentagon’s findings have once again drawn attention to the United States’ ability to sustain long-term wars, particularly with regard to stockpile levels and the pace of ammunition production.
