VLEN Demands Answers: What Happened to Switzerland’s €7 Million for Gostivar’s Water?

VLEN has leveled accusations against Arben Taravari, claiming that he is evading responsibility for Gostivar’s water pollution problem.

According to VLEN, Taravari’s positions contradict one another. The party recalls that he once appeared before Gostivar residents and blamed the government at the time for “poisoning” citizens through negligence and inaction. Meanwhile, during his own term, he claimed that he was resolving Gostivar’s water issue “for the next 100 years.”

VLEN claims that Taravari not only failed to fulfill his promises, but is now refusing to accept political responsibility when the burden of accountability rests with the administration he led. The two giant reservoirs he announced in 2022 as a solution for the drinking water supply and as a donation from Switzerland were also never built.

In this context, VLEN is asking what happened to the €7 million in Swiss assistance. At the same time, the party is also asking whether Gostivar’s water is meeting the same fate as the Zajas sewerage system.

VLEN describes the situation as deeply ironic because, according to the party, the criticism Taravari once directed at his political rivals now demonstrates his own failure even more clearly. It stresses that standards should not be adjusted to suit political interests and that, if mere suspicion was enough to level serious accusations in 2017, today’s facts make the situation even more alarming.

According to VLEN, citizens do not need excuses or silence, but transparency, accountability and responsibility. They expect safe water and functioning institutions.
