The US military has completed its eighth consecutive night of airstrikes against Iranian coastal surveillance facilities, air defences and ammunition depots. The operation was carried out in retaliation for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ attack on US forces in Jordan, which resulted in the deaths of two soldiers.
“The US armed forces have begun launching new airstrikes against Iran on the orders of their commander-in-chief. These strikes are designed to further undermine Iran’s ability to threaten merchant ships in the Strait of Hormuz and to immediately punish the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, which launched attacks on US military personnel in Jordan last night,” US President Donald Trump announced via X, through their joint command responsible for the Middle East.

Media reports say Iran responded with attacks on military bases in Kuwait, causing severe damage to critical electricity and water desalination infrastructure. The ongoing hostilities have led to the blockade of Iranian ports and repeated disruptions to commercial maritime transport in the Strait of Hormuz.
“Now that the American enemy is seeking to resume the war, it must know that the beloved Iranian nation and the resistance front have unforgettable lessons to teach.
The repeated violations by the American side of the Islamabad memorandum of understanding, the agreement in principle signed by the presidents of both countries on June 17 and intended to silence the guns, once again showed that the American president’s signature has no value,” Iran’s Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, said in a written message broadcast yesterday by state television.
In addition to the bombings, incidents at sea have occurred one after another in the Strait of Hormuz. Its reopening was the main achievement of the June 17 agreement, but the movement of merchant ships has now almost completely stopped again. The Revolutionary Guard, the Islamic Republic’s ideological military force, warned that its attacks would continue until calm was restored on Iran’s southern coast and in the Strait of Hormuz.
Approximately one-fifth of the hydrocarbons consumed globally passed through the strait before the war. After its renewed closure, the United States reinstated the blockade of Iranian ports in retaliation, just days after it had been lifted under the memorandum of understanding.
